Gold has dropped below $1600 to $1589.40 and Silver is down to $29.27.

If this trend continues you may end up losing big or just having to wait outside of your comfort zone for you to recoup any profits that you did have. Last week was Great! A customer was able to purchase a new car with the Gold that she sold!

She went through her jewelry box, brought in everything that she didn't wear or thought was gold and asked what we could do for her. She had gone through a divorce and needed to make a Fresh Start and get on with her life.

She had her gold jewelry, a couple of small gold coins as charms set in bezels, some gold rings, a diamond ring, sterling silver designer jewelry and a few pieces of nice costume. I asked her to write down what she thought she was going to get for everything and show it to me later.

When we were done her total came to $3250. I was curious as to how much she thought she was going to get for everything. The total she had written down at the beginning.... $1500.00! She walked out with $1750 more that she had expected!

Later in the week, she came in driving a new white Hyundai and was thrilled. The money was her downpayment on her new car and her Fresh Start on life.

Get out of jail (Free)! Well not really Free, but in this case the money for her son's bail bondsman came from a woman's jewelry collection.

She had several pieces that had been inherited from her mother who had lived in New York City all of her life. Very nice pieces of costume jewelry and several pieces of Fine Gold jewelry. Things she was never going to wear and was just saving for sentimental reasons.

When her son got into trouble recently and she needed $1500.00 to pay for the bondsman, this is where the money came from. Not bad for some old items just sitting on top of the dresser in a box. In fact she actually came away with some extra money that was headed to the bank for a rainy day fund.

What a Great Job I have!

I worked all day Saturday getting ready for an auction at 7 pm that night. In the middle of the day, I took a phone call from a customer I had not talked with in over a year.

She informed me that they had fallen behind on their mortgage payments and unless they could come up with $4000, they were about to lose their home of 20 plus years!

We scheduled a house call for Monday evening and I asked her to gather together all the items of value that she felt she could part with.

The next day was Easter Sunday and I worked in Chesapeake at ABC Cash For Assets until 6:30 pm. Traffic was very slow on the way back home and I finally arrived back in Richmond around 11 pm.

Monday came very quickly and after working at the shop until 5 pm, I headed out for my house call.

My customer had her kitchen table covered with glassware, jewelry, collectibles, and some artwork.

We talked again about the financial situation and then went to work to see how close we could come to the amount she needed.

Everything on the table was not going to do it. The little bit of jewelry, and some of the better items only totaled $1200.00. That was a good start and I asked if there were any other items of value that she felt she could part with. Even with her home at risk, there were items that had been in the family for over 100 years that she just could not part with...

They gave me permission to look around and see what else I might be interested in. Armed with a good flashlight, I went through the large breakfront china, the server, a chest in the front room crammed full of good items and in about 30 minutes I was able to come up with another $2300.00 worth of items. Things that had been put away years ago, had not been used and items they just didn't think I would buy.

The net result from that one house call was, I spent a total of $3500.. Enough she said to bring the payments current. I educated them on other items of value that they still had and I have a follow up call scheduled to go through the attic and basement next month.

A Win - Win Situation for everyone. You never know what someone might be willing to pay for some of your old "junk", coins the husband had put away, Civil War Items that have been handed down and no one cares about anymore, that extra car in the driveway that is not being driven. It all can add up.
